Troubleshoot ExplorePDF
Answers for locked PDFs, form fields, saved copies, scanned pages and booklet printing.
A PDF asks for a password or will not let me change pages
On Apple devices, a PDF that still needs a password cannot be opened for editing, and ExplorePDF cannot save a changed copy of a password protected PDF yet. Unlock it in an app that can remove the protection, save an unprotected copy you are authorised to create, then open that copy in ExplorePDF.
A form field will not fill
ExplorePDF fills ordinary fields on Apple devices, Android and Windows 1.3. A field may be locked when it is read only, stores a password, or depends on the PDF's own script or calculation. A total driven by a script may not update, so check it before relying on the copy.
I cannot find the copy I saved
Save a Copy uses the location chosen in the system save window or file picker. On Mac, choose Show in Finder after saving when that action is shown. On iPhone and iPad, open the folder you selected in Files. On Android, open the location chosen in the file picker. On Windows, open the folder chosen in the Save dialog. Split and many-file jobs write several results into the destination folder they show before starting.
Find cannot see words on a scanned page
A scan is often a picture with no searchable text. ExplorePDF 1.3 includes text recognition on Mac, iPhone, iPad, Android and Windows. Android recognizes English text. Check the recognized words before saving a new copy.
Every other booklet page prints upside down
The printer's double sided binding edge must match the edge shown by ExplorePDF. If the two settings disagree, every other side can turn the wrong way. Make a fresh booklet copy if you change the edge, then print again with the matching printer setting.
